There are many things you need to know and decide ahead of time before ordering wholesale zippers. When a customer comes to us for custom zippers, we can manufacture and produce all zippers exactly to the customer's specifications. Many times, customers don’t know exactly what kind of zippers they want, which makes it difficult for us to give customers quotations.
What type of zipper are you looking for? What is the ultimate zipper application? Are you looking for nylon coil, metal, or plastic molded zippers? Every type of zipper produced should meet the functional needs of the product and be balanced with the aesthetic the designer wants to achieve. Once you know what type of zipper you'll be using, you can move on to the gauge dimensions.
Zipper style refers to the actual use of the zipper. For example, if you are designing and producing a jacket, then you will need a breakaway bottom zipper. For denim, a closed bottom will work for you. If you have a long trench coat that requires two zipper pulls, one at the top and one at the bottom, then you will need a two-way split bottom zipper.
Basic zipper styles are:
closed bottom
Separate bottom
Two-way separation bottom
Two-way closed bottom
Zipper size
At Baoxin Zipper, when we refer to gauge size, we are referring to the size of the teeth. We manufacture different types of zippers in sizes ranging from #2 to #10. That said, you need to know how big (width) you want your teeth to be so that again the functional needs of the piece are met as well as the aesthetic needs. If the zipper is a metal zipper, continue with the zipper finish. If it's a nylon coil or plastic molded zipper, skip to zipper length.
This only works with metal zippers. Are you looking for brass, nickel, gunmetal, antique nickel, antique brass, and more? While finishing is primarily for aesthetics, the type of finishing should sometimes be considered based on the type of processing the garment will undergo. We see this most often in the denim industry. Since all chemical washes are used to achieve a specific finish or appearance, the type of zipper finish should be planned ahead of time to ensure that the zipper will withstand the required garment laundering.
The next two are very simple. What zipper length do you need? When measuring zippers, do not include the length of the extension strap. You simply measure the zipper length from the top stop to the bottom stop (metal to metal).
Color is probably the most subjective part of zippers we deal with. While you might think red is red or blue is blue, that's not the case. Here’s why. After choosing a color, you must consider the type of light in which you will recognize the color. Is it fluorescent, white light, or are you using sunlight outside? If you're outside, is it morning sun or afternoon sun? When you approve a color, be consistent with the light source used when the color was reviewed and approved. At UCAN Zippers USA, we most often use white light in controlled environments unless otherwise specified by the customer.
When purchasing wholesale zippers, you will encounter minimal quantities. Why impose minimum limits on wholesale zippers? The reason we do this is because the minimum quantity matches the minimum quantity our machines can produce. Some wholesale zipper companies will specify a minimum quantity, while others may specify a minimum yardage. At Baoxin Zipper, we have a minimum yardage requirement. If you're not sure how many zippers you can buy in the minimum size, we can help you figure it out.
